Production notes
The work on "Romy is alive" reaches over the last three years. It all started off with the finding of a pile of old letters, which were Romy Schneider's private correspondence. After screening and cataloging the material, the idea of the publication was born.
But in which form? "It shouldn't become an embarassing navel-gazing or an endless baggy sensationalism", Dieter Schleifenbaum says.
"I wanted to find a form, which meets Romy Schneider's personality and give her many admirers a new chance to get to know her."
Thus the material was lying in the private archive for long until he had a conversation with his friend the photographer Helga Kneidl. Drinkin a glass of wine, both of them decided to combine their material.
Helga Kneidl's photos from summer 1973, combined with carefully selected letters and quotations. But there was something left. Paris!
The metropole at the Seine reflects an awareness of life feeling of a whole epoch. In the beginning of the 70ies Paris formed a background for ideas, fashion and liberties. For Romy Schneider Paris was the backdrop for a new period of life. The picture was complete.
At the end there were 200 pages. An intensive review of some days in Paris 1973. Romy Schneider changes her life and starts anew.
The reader joins her on her way through the city, watches her over her shoulder and pokes in her letters from the 70ies.
"I don't disclose the last secrets and I don't know any names as this is not what the book is about. It is an illustrated book which takes the reader back to a turning point in Romy Schneider's life. A big collage of pictures, letters and quotations.
A book to dream, swarm and remember. An illustrated book with beautiful pictures, a unique legend. Whoever runs through the pages, is fascinated by the liveliness of the scenery and the closeness to Romy Schneider.
"Romy is alive!"
